Dr Ayesha Akinkugbe (MB;BCh; FWACP)

Co-founder of The Labalaba Foundation for Lupus Advocacy and Awareness.

Dr Ayesha Akinkugbe (MB;BCh; FWACP) is the co-founder of The Labalaba Foundation for Lupus Advocacy and Awareness. For over a decade, her experience as a dermatologist working at LUTH brought her into contact with hundreds of lupus patients; caring for these patients became rather personal. She felt their pain and anxiety concerning the devastating effect some skin conditions made on their outward appearance and quality of life.

Dr. Akinkugbe decided to start The Labalaba Foundation, a platform where she could use her professional experience to create awareness for lupus and to support her own patients and others living with lupus.

Dr Ayesha Akinkugbe is a Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and a Consultant Dermatologist and Genito-Urinary Physician at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-araba, Lagos. She graduated from the University of Jos Medical School and completed her postgraduate training in Dermatology at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

She is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians. She has served as Secretary for the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists and is a member of the Dermatology Society of Lagos, the International Society of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology.
